The upper parking lot is where the Montcalme Sanitorium was located. The
Sanitorium was run by the Sisters of Mercy to treat tuberculosis patients. Located on the outer back
corner is an actual TB Hut that is original to the Castle/Montcalme Sanitorium, where the
Sisters of Mercy’s patients lived during their stay for treatment.
In the spring and summer colorful blooms greet the visitor to the Victorian gardens adjoining the Castle. Many say the garden is enchanted, because its blooms seem to appear weeks earlier than similar blossoms in the surrounding community.
The gardens are often the scene of summer weddings and also provide a luxuriant background for artists. The wide variety of foliage blooms throughout the Colorado growing season.
